Baswich Community Group

Committee Meeting

Minutes of Meeting 24th January 2011

Present:

Jonathan Andrew, Kevan Tongue, Derek Cliff, Mike Tyson, Brian Garret, Jo Bailey, Stephen Case, Pete Davies (PCSO), Steve Thornton (PC), Kim Edwards, Pete Glover, Ann Edgeller, John Francis, Bob Chumley-Roberts, Eleanor Chumley-Roberts, Peter Graysmith

Apologies:

Sue Francis, Janet Morgan

Matters Arising from Previous Meeting:

None

AGM feedback:

1: Traffic – speed and volume an issue, but no funds for any solutions. Problem with foreign HGVs on Baswich bridges might be eased by reviewing the signage. Jonathan is to draft a letter to council about our concerns. Baswich Lane swept of grit from the resurfacing in summer.

2. Play facilities on Yelverton – good positive feedback and can there be more, but parking can be a problem, especially when teams are playing. Again signs may be the solution.

3. A seat for outside the shops received near unanimous approval when those present were asked. However

Jackie Moore has formally objected to a seat and any funding from the council. A seat that could be taken in at night could be a solution as the public clearly favour a seat on basis of AGM. Seat location and insurance needs to be considered when funding is available, as well as planning approval.

4. Any housing development on police HQ site should have community facilities and the group should campaign to this end.

Treasurers Report:

Balance c/f  was £2206.90 at end of Dec 2010.

Jonathan Andrew and Kim Edwards are appointed signatories to account, with Kevan Tongue also remaining a signatory. Bank has implemented this.

Police Update:

Electric cables stolen from Tilcon Rd site.

Co-op had large metal bins and security cameras stolen.

No burglaries reported.

Some problems with snow balling in Dec.

Police site to be sold asap and all buildings demolished.

The listed house on Cannock Rd not yet sold, but needs much renovation.

Local Councillors Update:

Ann Edgeller: Not clear whether further cuts to Baswich buses proposed but Ann will monitor and report back.

Lynton Tavern – no news and no planning app yet for proposed wall to replace temporary fencing.

The notice board could be installed by Streetscene.

Ann has called in the application for retrospective approval  to remove the garages from 2 new houses in Porlock.

John Francis:  The speed indicator devices now removed, and analysis of data awaited. Baswich Lane survey also redone and results awaited. The speed camera van has been on Baswich Lane. 4 new vans are available and can record speed in both directions.

Baswich lane has been swept of loose grit remaining from the poor resurfacing done in summer. Patches on all roads are bare and uneven and perhaps worse than before the summer resurfacing in some areas. Lynton Rd is bad at the Weeping Cross junction.

Resurfacing to be done from Hillcroft Rd to Walton school in summer 2011, and Cannock Rd to pedestrian crossing needs to be done as part of 2011/12 hotspots maintenance. John will ask Highways to do this urgently.

Pavement over railway bridge needs attention – Railtrack responsible.

Sub-Groups:

Young people sub-group met at Gateway centre. Money spent on skate ramp at Wildwood, but need facilities in this area. Need funding to finance a generation worker (perhaps based at Church) to explore opportunities that could link young and old in the community. Perhaps lottery fund.

An open house has been organized at Baswich church hall, with soup and rolls, every Tuesday at 12.15pm. A local newsletter suggested and maybe a local history day.

All sub-groups need to look at funding needs and bid as a package.

Date of Next Meetings:

Thursday 24th March 2011
